About Nichola

Art has always been an enormous part of Nichola Ethelston's life since early childhood. At just eight years old, she created her first portfolio of drawings. During her teenage years, she left Secondary school with an A* at GCSE level. From there, she began to explore a larger variety of mediums, particularly enjoying  acrylic and oil paint in College, whilst also studying graphic design.  Nichola eventually went on to achieve a second class honors degree in Teaching, learning and mentoring at University, in hope one day to combine her passion for art and supporting young people. In 2020, during the lockdowns, Nichola found her self drawing and painting all the more. She felt it was time to concentrate on her passion and to follow her dreams of becoming a professional artist. Nichola started developing her skills and found her voice under the mentorship of professional artists Elli and Dimitra Milan in the United States, completing the fine art Mastery Program. She also, had further guidance one to one with personal mentor and professional artist Daree Johnson (Mentor from the Milan Art Institute). This consisted of online tutoring and zooms, communicating with  artists world wide.

Inspired by the simple things in life and everything life throws at you, Nichola strives to draw viewers into thinking more deeply, to search for hope by capturing emotions honestly through symbolism, line and form.
She really loves history and stories from the past and likes to reflect this in her work. Working with a wide variety of mediums, Nichola is still exploring further to add more depth to her work. She begins her artwork with a layer of abstract mark making to add detail upon viewings up close, followed by collage. These are often from old historic references or books. Nichola is often asked about the stories behind her artwork and why she chooses to tell such stories. Why be a narrative? She quotes "Telling a story through imagery, rather than words allows for expression, freedom, honesty and acceptance for ones individuality. It allows a voice to be spoken simply and subtly without feeling the need to be silenced, viewers are encouraged to think deeply, to relate with their own emotions and experiences."

Nichola loves spending time with her family, especially trips to the coast and long walks with breathtaking views. She is often found at home in her studio, working on new paintings, or exploring more abstract methods when out and about. She has big plans for the future in incorporating her art with therapy, to help encourage others of all ages to be open and find comfort within themselves through art. Her desire to bring creativity to every young person is her ultimate goal, whilst also working with young children and is keen to support educational settings in incorporating this with her excellent, dependable knowledge.

Finding happiness in every direction.
